Why unreviewed releases cause problems

The 60-minute monthly routine

Five steps, once a month.

Put it on the calendar each month when new release notes come out. The times are a guide; the habit is what matters.

    Read

    15 minutes

    Open the release notes for the SAP Concur products you use, plus the shared release notes. Skim the headlines first and only go deep on what might apply to you.

  2. 02

    Flag

    15 minutes

    Mark each change as "no impact," "watch" or "action needed" for your setup. Pay closest attention to workflows, audit rules, the user interface, mobile, and integrations.

  3. 03

    Test

    15 minutes

    For anything marked "action needed," check the change in your test environment if you have one, or with a small group of users before everyone sees it.

  4. 04

    Tell

    10 minutes

    Send a short note to the people affected: what's changing, when, and what they need to do, in plain language.

  5. 05

    Log

    5 minutes

    Record what you reviewed and what you decided. Next month, and the next admin, will thank you.

Who should own it

One named owner, with a backup.

Finance, travel or IT can review specific items, but one person has to make sure the routine happens every month. Name a backup so it doesn't stop when the owner is out.
